Deveney & White Memorials

old photo of exterior of Deveney and White Granite Co. Headstones, Gravestones, Dorchester, MAIn 1946 there wasn’t a Southeast Expressway.  The Streetcars ran on Neponset Avenue and turned around at the circle.  On Gallivan Blvd., where McDonalds and CVS are now, The Purple Cow and Dutchland Farms once stood.  On the other side of the street was E.P. Deveney & Sons Granite Co.

The Deveney family history in the Granite industry dates back to the time of the Quincy Quarries at the turn of the last century, 1898.  At that time, Quincy was the granite capital of the world.  My great-grandfather, Edward P. Deveney Sr. and his six brothers started a wholesale granite business, Deveney Bros., on Dysart St. in Quincy, creating beautiful, sought after memorials out of the finest Quincy granites, shipping them to New York and the Midwest.

Long after the quarries closed, my great-grandfather and my grandfather, Edward P. Deveney Jr., purchased some land that was, at the time, just an empty field and moved the business from Quincy to Dorchester in 1946, where it stands to this day on Gallivan Boulevard.

My father, Gerard L. Deveney, along with his brother-in-law, Walter White, eventually purchased the business from my grandfather in the late 1970s, establishing it as Deveney & White.

Times have changed and we now have high quality granites available to us in many colors from around the world.  Our commitment to making the finest memorials has never wavered.  We take pride in our craftsmanship and ensure that each memorial is designed with our own artwork and creativity, something that can only be achieved through years of experience and expertise. While other companies rely on shortcuts and inferior technology, we remain true to the timeless techniques that give our memorials their distinct, pleasing look. Your individual memorial is custom designed to match your needs, budget, and visionfor a lasting family monument.
